“One thing that holds many agents back, especially in the insurance industry, is they don't trust people. There are bad people out there. But, you have to trust in people.”
- Ryan Loede, CEO, LC Financial Group
The Innovative Interview with Ryan Loede and EJ Myers is now available on the IFG YouTube channel and the Teamifg.com blog page!
Hosted by Director of Marketing and Sales Matthew Murray, IFG is excited to host Ryan Loede, CEO of LC Financial Group, and the VP of Sales, EJ Myers, for a candid discussion of the struggles and triumphs of the insurance industry.
EJ asks Ryan, "You are so young and motivated-spiritually, physically and mentally. How do you do it?"
Ryan shares that he is continuously learning and diving into information: listening to podcasts, and audiobooks, reading books, and listening to highly successful people. He shares his admiration for Grant Cardone, whose companies reportedly own and control more than $2 billion of investment properties in the United States. All this has provided the foundation for his success in the insurance industry.
EJ asks Ryan, "Who was your mentor? Matthew adds, "Nobody just wakes up with this mindset. There was something that happened to you one day that just clicked!"
Ryan shares his past and the struggles after high school when he was tired of being sick and tired. He was introduced to insurance, and then he came across Grant Cardone. Ryan shared that it was the bridge to another life he wanted to live. He saw so much more possibility for an opportunity. "That gave me the pathway from where I was to make those changes. I have learned if you want to change. Just change. Make that decision."
Deciding to move out of a problematic environment made ALL the difference. Ryan said, "If I wanted to get to where I am now and continue to level up, it had to happen. You have to continuously sift through assets and liabilities. People, surroundings, actions, and activities are either assets or liabilities."
EJ shares a similar experience with friends questioning his decision to enter the insurance industry. He had tremendous success in the automotive sector, hitting the pinnacle of success. But, they asked, "Why would you leave that, to start at ground zero and go back at grunt level?" EJ shares that with genuine talent, "The hunger is always inside. The blueprint will always be the same once you hit the first $100,000. No matter what you go onto. Because you already know how to do it. It just happens to be faster and easier to transition to a new goal. You make half the mistakes."
Matthew drops a metaphorical bomb, "Your rearview mirror is tiny for a reason. Your front windshield is much bigger. You can see so much more focusing on what's in front of you." BOOM! 💣💥
The three share the pitfall moments and how they survived and recovered from the losses. EJ shares the moment of reckoning a chargeback affected his commission statement in Final Expense. Sometimes you can be too good at selling. Sometimes, The best policy is not the right one for your client if they can't afford it. EJ shares that you must consider your client and put them first by serving their situation. EJ said, "It's cool to ask because if I would have known Susy was making $800 bucks and I'm leaving her with $400... this is probably going to fall off."
Ryan talks about the three months it took to make his first sale: no sales knowledge, no communication skills, an introverted personality, and buying ten leads a week. He thought he could wing it, but through all that, learning you need tactical strategies to become great. So Ryan persevered, diving into insurance training on YouTube and sales books by prominent people, and personal development courses.
EJ asks, "How do you trust in the day of social media?" Ryan wants to see people doing what they say they are doing. "One thing that holds many agents back, especially in the insurance industry, is they don't trust people. There are bad people out there. But, you have to trust in people."
